Hiraeth Trio are an exciting, young ensemble comprising of flute (Epsie Thompson), viola (Hannah Roberts) and harp, formed in London in 2017, whilst students at the Royal Academy of Music. All former members of the National Youth Orchestra of Wales, they have performed at the Wales Millennium Centre and gave recitals as part of the National Eisteddfod in Cardiff Bay in 2018. The trio have also performed numerous recitals in London, in venues including Charlton House and the Angela Burgess Recital Hall. Passionate about outreach work, the group recently gave a Christmas workshop at Pontarddulais Comprehensive School’s Specialist Teaching Facilities Unit. Since the Covid-19 Pandemic, they have enjoyed virtually recording music together, which has proved very popular on their social media channels. As well as performing traditional, core repertoire, the group enjoys writing their own arrangements of more popular tunes, and have a particular interest in Welsh folk music.
The trio have been fortunate to receive coaching from harpists Catherine White and Skaila Kanga, and violist Martin Outram.
